Longview is located approximately 45 miles West of Shreveport, LA, 120 miles East of Dallas, 250 miles North of Houston . Longview in no longer just an agricultural community, it has grown into a diversified industrial center with over 350 manufactures. East Texas continues to grow and has opportunities in agriculture, oil & gas, manufacturing and finance. Gregg County Airport is located in Longview and is an alternative landing site for NASA's space shuttle. Both the Union-Pacific and Santa Fe rail systems run through Longview and allows movement of products to many manufacturers.
Longview has many beautiful, pristine lakes and heavily forested countryside. As a result, outdoor sports and activities are enjoyed year-round due to the very mild climate that Longview enjoys.
Longview has an excellent primary, secondary and higher education resource base. Longview ISD, Pine Tree ISD, Spring Hill ISD, Hallsvile ISD, Tatum ISD and White Oak ISD all have a strong history of excellence in education, outstanding academic programs and a wide range of extracurricular activities. As you might imagine, FOOTBALL is huge in Texas . Many of our local area schools have played in state championship games.
The Greater Longview Organization for Business and Education (GLOBE) is a nationally recognized program, initiated by Eastman Chemcial Company, to challenge students with more sophisticated courses in public school. This program includes higher levels of math, science, literature and geography, designed to provide quantitative and qualitative skills. It is an opportunity for students to take courses that will enable them to excel as they continue their higher education, and to think critically and effectively as they enter the work force.
Longview also has many excellent private schools available. A couple of outstanding colleges would include Kilgore Jr. College , LeTourneau University and UT Tyler .
As mentioned previously, Longview enjoys mild climate year-round. If you love the outdoors, Longview is the place for you. There are 33 public lakes and none of them are more than 30 miles away. These public facilities offer fishing, boating, skiing, sailing and swimming almost year round. Longview's Parks and Leisure Services offers year-round organized youth and adult activities including, softball, basketball, soccer and swimming. You can also enjoy the 300+ acres of parkland maintained throughout the city. The countryside offers hunters an opportunity to track game and experience the heritage of our forefathers.
Longview also has several health and fitness facilities, four golf courses, miniature golf, bowling and much more. You will never be bored or have to look far for fun activities.
Art and Culture
The Longview Community Theatre, Longview Ballet Theatre, Longview Symphony and Longview Opera perform several productions throughout the year. Longview also boasts the Longview Art Museum, Gregg County Historical Museum and Kilgore Oil Museum, all of which are a great cultural experience.
